Dr. Donald Huggins, Kansas Biological Survey, presented three sessions in Washington, D.C., on March 26 focused on CAST’s recent publication, Assessing the Health of Streams in Agricultural Landscapes: The Impacts of Land Management Change on Water Quality.  Two NC-FAR/Congress events were open to the public, and an afternoon gathering was for EPA staff only.

As Project Manager Rick Cruse, Iowa Water Center and Iowa State University, states, “Understanding the role and interplay of land- and stream-related factors in determining water quality is necessary in implementing watershed changes and allowing time for these changes to translate to stream improvements.”

In the Special Publication, the authors consider a whole systems approach as they identify causes of water degradation and look at a strategy to improve water conditions in the nation’s streams in agriculturally dominated watersheds.
